My name is T.J. and I’m on an odyssey.
I grew up in Grand Island, NE and at 21 went to school at The University of Nebraska. 5 1/2 years later in December ‘06 I finally graduated and in Jan ‘06 headed West in my ‘95 Jetta on a journey to visit some friends who’d moved away.
4 days later I ended up at Sundance in Park City, UT and was offered a job working for a “major-label” band in LA. Fate. I continued my trip and arrived in LA on Valentine’s Day. After a couple short tours I found another job and was simultaneously replaced by the “band”.
I worked for nearly 2 years at a firm designing DVD packaging that you can still see at Best Buy. 2 years to the day I arrived in LA, I moved above the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood.
I stood up to my boss at the design firm and was thankfully fired and finally got to enjoy living in LA for a while. A few months later I joined a UK rock band first as Driver/Tour Support and then as Bassist/Keys/Backing Vox that I’m still in to this day.
Not being able to support living in LA and just doing music and odd design gigs I moved back to Nebraska for a bit and after some bad luck decided to take a job as a cab driver. On a friends suggestion to keep a journal of the nightly atrocities I decided to start The Scabdriver at: http://scabdriver.tumblr.com
After 8 months in Nebraska, constantly contemplating an escape I decided once again to flee. The plan formed to get a van and head back to LA. The day I formed the plan I had a customer in my cab that just happened to have 2 Chevy G20 Conversion vans for sale. One was a bright red 1995 with 135k and the other was Elizabeth Taylor. A strong 5.7L 350 V8 engine with a lean 96k miles and baby blue everywhere. I closed the deal on the day that Liz died and that’s how she got her name.
I had the van, I saved a bit of money, I sold 3 guitars, I collected on some debts and with another escapee we travelled West on May 6, 2011. The mission: Follow The Great Magnet. Visualize Abundance. Learn to feel again.
I still play in a UK rock band called KAV (http://kavblaggers.com) and I hope to see as much of the world as I can from the stage.
